About Ujamaa
A home built on familyhood.
Ujamaa is a Swahili word that means familyhood — the belief that we are responsible for one another. That is not a tagline. It is the reason this home exists and the standard we hold ourselves to every single day.
Our mission
Care that feels like family.
We started Ujamaa because we believed there had to be a better way to care for aging adults, veterans, and people with disabilities — one that felt like home instead of a facility. A place where residents are known by name, where caregivers stay long enough to understand each person's history and preferences, and where families feel at peace leaving their loved one at the end of a visit.
Dignity
Every resident deserves to be treated with respect, patience, and genuine warmth — regardless of their condition or level of need.
Familyhood
Ujamaa means we are in this together. Residents, families, and staff are all part of the same household.
Consistency
Familiar faces matter. We work hard to keep caregiver turnover low so residents always see someone they know and trust.
Transparency
Families are never left wondering. We communicate openly about care, changes in condition, and anything that affects their loved one.
Our story
Why we opened our doors.
Ujamaa Assisted Living Center was founded on a simple conviction: that the people who built our communities, raised our families, and served our country deserve more than a bed in a hallway. They deserve a home.
Our Anna location is our inaugural home — the first of what we intend to be a network of small, family-style personal care homes across North Texas. We are growing into Collin, Dallas, Tarrant, and Denton counties because we believe every family in the Metroplex should have access to this kind of care close to home.
We are proud to serve seniors, military veterans, and adults with physical disabilities. Each group brings a different history and a different set of needs — and we take the time to understand both.
Our commitment
What families can count on.
Caregivers on site 24/7
Someone is always awake and present — day, night, and every hour in between.
Personalized care plans
Written with the family at move-in and reviewed whenever needs change.
Open communication
Regular updates, care conferences, and an open-door policy for family visits.
A real home
Home-cooked meals, familiar routines, and a household that feels like family — not a facility.
Honest referrals
If we are not the right fit, we will tell you and help you find a place that is.
Veteran-aware care
We honor the service of our veteran residents and coordinate with VA benefits and providers.
Growing across North Texas
Anna is just the beginning.
Our Anna home is Ujamaa's inaugural location. As we grow, we are bringing the same small-home, family-style care to communities across Collin, Dallas, Tarrant, and Denton counties — so more North Texas families can have a trusted home nearby.
